Reference
SC 8/82/4080
Date
[c. 1320]
Description
Petitioners
Tenants of Cookham and Bray.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The tenants request remedy as they have been disturbed in their right to make their profit in Windsor Forest by Camoys, their land being royal demesne, and they and their ancestors having rights to the same.
Nature of endorsement
It is ordered to the keeper of the Forest that if it is so then he is to permit the tenants to have their wood without view and impediment just as they were accustomed to do from time out of memory.
Places mentioned
Cookham, [Berkshire]
Bray, [Berkshire]
Forest of Windsor, [Berkshire].
People mentioned
Ralph de Camoys, Steward of the Forest.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1320 as the keeping of the castle and forest of Windsor to Camoys was only made on 22 February 1320, and it is likely that the petition would then be presented later in 1320, or in the following year or two (CFR 1319-27, p.18).
