Nature of request
1) The bishop requests that he will order of his grace that £100 be allowed in the Exchequer from a certain fifth granted to the king's father to be put to the defence of the Scottish March, and it was paid to Saunford to keep him there to defend it against Wallace, as Saunford wished to follow Percy who had departed.2) The bishop further requests that the mayor and bailiffs of Newcastle and his bailiffs be ordered to make allowance of a messuage and an acre of land which they demolished to make the ditch near the wall of the town for which they have answered before the justices.3) The clerks of the diocese request that they be able to pay the arrears that they owe for the taxation as it was assessed on the value of their goods before they were burnt by the Scots.

The petition appears to date to 1320, although the allowance granted to the bishop was fifty marks, and not £100 (CCR 1318-23, p.193).
