Meldebourne requests that he is granted the office of keeper of the quay of Scarborough to collect the quayage and moorage amounting to 2d a day, and that he is able to have maintenance for his life for his long service, and for the costs that he has suffered in the garrison of Carlisle for want of wages.

Note
A note at the beginning of this file suggests that the bulk of the petitions in the file date to 1320. The date is entirely possible for this petition as the petitioner was admitted to the garrison on 20 July 1318 (CCR 1318-23, p.3). The petition is probably contemporary with SC 8/82/4062. It is clearly earlier than 1323 when Harcla was executed. The guard suggests a date of c. 1318 or 1320. This is probably right, but there is little evidence to confirm this. A date of? 1320 has been opted for in accordance with the note at the beginning of the file.
