[? 1320]
Description
Petitioners
Abbot of Whitland.
Addressees
King
Occupation
Abbot of Whitland
Nature of request
The abbot request requests that remedy be done to him, and that he can have letters patent that he is to be quit of suit to the county of Cardigan according to the purport of his charter. Their lands in South Wales ought to be quit of suit, but the constable of Cardigan has distrained them grievously to make suit.
Nature of endorsement
He should come into Chancery and show his charter and have a writ.
Places mentioned
Whitland, [Carmarthenshire, Wales]
South Wales, [Wales]
Cardigan, [Cardiganshire, Wales].
People mentioned
Constable of Cardigan.
Note
A note at the beginning of file 82 states that all of the petitions in this file appear to belong to the year 1320. There is no evidence to confirm or deny this. Rees was more reticent and opted for a date of Temp. Edw. II (Petitions Relating to Wales, pp.117-18). The response is in French, and this normally occurs after 1322, but examples can be found before this, so it is quite possible for this to be 1320.
