Reference
SC 8/81/4048
Date
[c. 1320]
Description
Petitioners
Burgesses of Beaumaris.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The burgesses request that the chancellor order Mortimer by writ to enquire of the length, location and cost of a quay at Beaumaris, so that the king and council can ordain and advise how the quay ought to be built, as the lack of a quay threatens the survival of the town and castle.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Beaumaris, [Anglesey, Wales].
People mentioned
Roger de Mortymer (Mortimer), Justice of Wales.
Note
The petition has to date to before 1322 as Roger Mortimer of Chirk was justice of Wales in a more-or-less continuous period from 1308-22. In addition a quay seems to have been built by 1322 as a close roll reference refers to repairs to the quay then (CCR 1318-23, p.415). A note included in the file relating to this petition also suggests this date as the Record Commission Transcript of the petition is included with other petitions of this period.
