Description
Petitioners
Steven (Stephen) Aleyn (Alan), citizen and merchant of London.
Name(s)
Aleyn (Alan), Steven (Stephen)
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
merchant of London
Nature of request
Aleyn requests execution and no further delay as the sheriff of Sussex has arrested £100 worth of the goods of the abbot and his men and returned his writ into Chancery. Aleyn had been driven with a cargo to the lands of the abbot by Flemish malefactors, and had unloaded his cargo for greater security whereupon the abbot's men had carried it away, and he has refused to make restitution or do justice so that the sheriff was ordered to make the arrest.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the plea pending between the parties in Chancery, the petition should be delivered into Chancery, and the process of the arrest and the abbot's response be viewed, and the chancellor is to call those who he wishes to be called and do further justice there.2) It is to be seen what the abbot has returned into Chancery.
