Nature of request
Hesilrygg requests for his service the grant to him the debt of Burneby amounting to £480 which has been attermined in the Exchequer at 4 marks per annum, and that this attermination be revoked and a writ sent to the sheriff of Northamptonshire for the debt and to Burneby to be paid. Hesilrygg was at the capture of Middleton, he was captured at Bannockburn and later ransomed, and his lands are ravaged.
Nature of endorsement
[None]

Stirling (Bannockburn), [Stirlingshire, Scotland]
Northamptonshire.
People mentioned
Gilbert de Middilton (Middleton)
Eustace de Burneby of Northamptonshire
John de Ferreres (Ferrers).
Note
The petition can be dated approximately to 1318. The petition refers to the petitioners presence at the capture of Gilbert de Middleton in 1317, and there is also a reference to his lands being ravaged for the last five years which would fit in with the worsening conditions in northern England after Bannockburn, and suggest a date of around 1319. The attermination of Burneby's debt was made on 5 March 1318, and the petition must postdate this. A date of c. 1318 seem appropriate.
