Petitioners
Alice de Veer (Vere), keeper of the lands and the heir of John Bandewyne.
Name(s)
de Veer (Vere), Alice
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Veer requests remedy for herself and Oliver Brandewyne to save Brandewyne's inheritance as she has the custody of him and his land and Margaret Brandewyne has sued an assize against them claiming Oliver to be a bastard which was confirmed by the deceit and maintenance of the bishop and others.
Nature of endorsement
The response appears in the schedule sewn to this petition.
Places mentioned
Northamptonshire.
People mentioned
John Bandewyne
Oliver [Bandewyne], [son and heir of John Bandewyne]
Margaret [Bandewyne], sister of Oliver Bandewyne
Thomas de Ingelby, Justice assigned to Northamptonshire
Bishop of . . ..
Note
The petition is dated on the guard to? c. 1372 on the basis of Thomas Ingleby, a justice mentioned to have been assigned to Northamptonshire in the petition, being one of the justices assigned to Northamptonshire in JUST 1/1480. Unfortunately Ingleby was one of the justices from 1359-1377 (JUST 1/1460, 63, 67, 72, 80, 82, and 86), and it is unclear how the date was narrowed to the date noted on the guard. Consequently the longer date range is adopted here.
