Reference
SC 8/81/4011
Date
[c. 1322]
Description
Petitioners
Miles de Verdun.
Name(s)
de Verdun, Miles
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Verdun requests that he be given Rathfeigh and adjoining lands that were forfeited by Mortimer and Lacy in satisfaction of a grant of £100 for his service at Dundalk and elsewhere.
Nature of endorsement
The land is to be enquired of and the king certified so that he can say his will.
Places mentioned
Ireland
Rathfeigh, County Meath, [Ireland]
Dundalk, [County Louth, Ireland].
People mentioned
Roger de Mortimer
Hugh de Lacy
Edward de Bruys (Bruce).
Note
The petition is not dated and does not seem to have supporting evidence. However, the petition does refer to the battle of Dundalk that occurred in 1318, and also to the land being forfeited by Mortimer and Lacy which puts it in 1322 or thereafter. In addition the petition is endorsed in French, and this make it likely to date to 1322 or later, so the date of c. 1322 has been adopted.
