Reference
SC 8/81/4009
Date
[c. 1348]
Description
Petitioners
Amice de Venuz, daughter and heir of John de Venuz.
Name(s)
de Venuz, Amice
Addressees
Council.
Nature of request
Venuz requests an inquisition into the matter of her inheritance as she was delivered of her inheritance when she came of age, but one Thomas de Venuz by deceit claimed he was next heir, and although it was found by judgment that the inheritance was hers in the king's court, Thomas de Venuz was put in possession to her great disinheritance. If the inquisition finds for her she requests that Venuz and his allies be sent to the Tower to await judgment.
Nature of endorsement
She should have a writ of Chancery to make execution of the judgment, and let their be a commission of good and sufficient men to enquire who entered on the possession of the king, and hear and try it according to the law and justice.
Places mentioned
Tower of London.
People mentioned
John de Venuz
Thomas de Venuz.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1348 as the escheator was ordered to put Venuz in possession of her estates, as a previous instruction to do the same had not been fully complied with (CCR 1346-9, p.462). This order does not seem to have been directly related to this petition as no mention is made of the intrusion of an alternative heir, but it cannot be too distant in date.
