Description
Petitioners
Roland de Vaus (Vaux) son of Robert de Vaux.
Name(s)
de Vaus (Vaux), Roland
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Vaux requests grace and remedy as the king granted him 20 marks of land in Cumberland because he had been captured in the king's war in Scotland, and a warrant was sent to the bishop of Exeter. The bishop coveted the reversion of Vaux's land at Babcary, and with the aid of the Despensers forced Vaux to make a fine for it for the 20 marks against his will and to his disinheritance.
Nature of endorsement
If the fine was levied after the exile of the Despensers he should sue according to the Statute made etc., and if before, nothing.

Carlisle, [Cumberland]
Babcary, Somerset.
People mentioned
Walter [Stapledon], Bishop of Exeter and late treasurer
Roland [de Vaus (Vaux)], son of Ralph de Vaux

Hugh le Despenser, the son.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1327 as it is clearly a petition early in Edward III's reign complaining of the excesses of the Despensers and their associates.
