Holdernesse to Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick: the king appreciates the threats from Contades and Soubise, and approves the prince's move towards the Maas. The English reinforcements arrived at Emden on 28 July. No further reinforcements can be sent to the army because of commitments in America, Ireland, Scotland and India. For the same reason Stade cannot be garrisoned, nor French prisoners brought from Hanover to England, but some frigates will be sent to the estuary of the Elbe. The king's surprise at the decision to recall the Prussian cavalry, and measures being taken to prevent it. Dated at Whitehall. ff. 3-8
