Description

R Irvine to [Under Secretary] Richard Potenger: congratulations on Admiral Boscawen's victory [Lagos Bay]. The Duke d'Aiguillon has been ordered to Brest to command 18,000 land troops. General Warren will command the Irish brigade. He believes the invasion of Britain will take place that month. The French are sending troops from Flanders to the Rhine. Dated at Flushing. PS. on his regret that Commodore Boys has not attacked Thurot's squadron at Dunkirk. The letter also contains a note [SP 87/31/187A] to the effect that the information on the invasion from Britanny is in General Warren's own hand. He asks that the note be destroyed after Holdernesse has seen it. ff. 187, 188
