R Irvine to [Under Secretary] Richard Potenger: composition of the garrison of Dunkirk, which has been reinforced by three battalions. Progress of the flat-bottomed boats. The Belle-Isle has been arrested because of Captain Thurot's debts. Rumours that he is to attack Stade. Seven flat-bottomed boats built in Boulogne. There are 50,000 men on the coast between Dieppe and Ostend. The Brest fleet is to put to sea and attempt a landing from Bristol Channel with the young pretender, while the flat-bottomed boats make a diversion on the east coast. A letter from Versailles states that Montcalm will defend the country between 'Crown Point' and Quebec strongly. Dated at Flushing. ff. 172-174
