R Irvine to [Under Secretary] James Wallace: death of an Irish officer in a quarrel with an English officer prisoner over a toast to the pretender. Cutters from Folkestone engaged in smuggling to and from Boulogne. Exile of Cardinal de Bennis an indication of Madame de Pompadour's loss of influence. Mr Taafe is imprisoned in the Bastille. The privateer Marshal Belle-Isle and her prize have escaped after being arrested at Ostend. Her English prisoners have been released. Dated at Flushing. ff.112, 113
