R Irvine to [Under Secretary] James Wallace: letters from Germany and the lower Rhine have been examined at Hanoverian headquarters. Details of the garrison at 'Mardijk'. Arrival of the frigate Comet at l'Orient from Louisburg with news of attacks by Admiral Boscowen. The Formidable has returned to Brest, not having been able to get into Louisburg. There are 25 ships of the line and frigates in Brest, but only two are manned. A convoy from Bordeaux to Brest feared lost. French capture of two barges bound from Hamburg to London. Dated at Flushing. ff. 62-64
