Description

R Irvine to [Under Secretary] James Wallace: the French king's household [troops] only set out from Paris that day for their cantonments around Dunkirk. The five privateers left Dunkirk hurriedly because of word that there was an order from court to embargo them and their crews; there is a need for hands to man the fleet at Brest, which is reputed to be bound to support a rebellion in Ireland. Swarms of Irish priests have gone to England from Ostend. Works on Dunkirk have stopped for lack of funds. Two armed fishing boats are to be sent to Canada. It is reported that Spain has declared war on Britain. His suspicions of one Ogilvie. Dated at Flushing. ff. 22-24
