Description

Petition regarding Mr. Thomas McGrath sent to Palmerston; petition from Alexander Murray; various related enclosures; Mr. McGrath was employed for a time as Head Master and Inspector of Schools in Grenada; Murray's petition refers to public printing, police magistrates, education, the House of Assembly. According to Walker, Mr. McGrath charges Walker as 'an enemy to Negro Education, and as a confederate of a section in the Grenada House of Assembly who desire to perpetuate slavery.' Kortright quotes McGrath's letter in his despatch to Walker and quotes McGrath asserting that planters have been for the effective continuation of Slavery and for a revival of the slave trade due to Indian migration.
