Note (Additional information about the record)
- The petition is clearly early Edward III as the petition refers to the king's grandfather as founder of the abbey, and Vale Royal was founded by Edward I. However, as the guard note make clear, there is no enrolled copy of this confirmation in either the patent or charter rolls for this period, and it is possible that as a Cheshire House, the charter may not have been issued in the normal way, but may have been relayed to the palatinate administration.
