Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/80/3991
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Useflet (Ousefleet), clerk.
Name(s)
de Useflet (Ousefleet), Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Useflet requests remedy as many sums are demanded from him by summons of the Exchequer. However he accounted for and paid all of the sums due from the period when he was clerk and receiver of the Chamber of the king's father before Wynferthyng, and as appears by Thomas's rolls of account that the treasurer and barons have. The treasurer and barons have been ordered to discharge Useflet but will not finally discharge him
Nature of endorsement
He should have a writ to the treasurer and barons that they discharge him of those sums according to the tenor of other orders made to them; and if there is a reasonable reason that they cannot do this then they should certify the chancellor of this, and the chancellor will do justice.
People mentioned
Richard Wynferthyng (Winfarthing), auditor of the accounts of the chamber.
Note
Speculatively dated to c. 1327 as Useflete was clerk of the Great Wardrobe under Edward II and Edward III, though this is clearly a petition early in Edward III's reign.
