Owen requests remedy and that the justice of Wales or his lieutenant be ordered to enquire by good and law-worthy men of the country of the wrong done to him by Mortimer who took and imprisoned him, and ransomed him for 400 marks without judgment
Nature of endorsement
It is ordered to the justice of South Wales to enquire of the cause of the taking and imprisonment. If they find it to be for a reasonable cause then they are to certify the king, and if they find that he was taken, imprisoned and ransomed without cause or process, then they are to take sufficient mainprise to answer when the king wishes to discuss the delivery.

The petition could date to the fall of the Mortimers in 1322 or to the fall of Roger Mortimer in 1330. A date of 1322-c. 1331 has been adopted to cover these eventualities, and in agreement with Rees (Petitions Relating to Wales, p.116).
