Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/80/3974
Date
[1320-1324]
Description
Petitioners
Jorworth Voill of Eifionydd
Name(s)
Voill, Jorworth
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Eythionyth (Eifionydd) commote, [Caernarfonshire, Wales].
Nature of request
Voill requests that the king will grant him that he can pay the arrears of the rent of £32 in instalments of 40s. at Michaelmas as he has no means to pay the same as they have nothing but their beasts and they have all died of murrain. He has served the king and his father for a long time.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege. 2) It is ordered to the justice that if the petitioner finds sufficient surety to pay a moiety of the arrears at Easter next, and the other moiety at Michaelmas then he is to have respite in the meantime.
Note
The petition dates to 1320-1324 on the basis of the dating evidence provided by Rees. He notes that the murrain occurred between 1316 and 1319, and that the petitioner was dead by 1324 so that the date would fall between these two dates. The petition is answered in French, so that it may be that it is as late as 1322.
