- The commonalty request that the king order by his writ that the justices who were assigned to various counties to hear and determine trespasses and excesses made upon the people by sheriffs and other ministers do justice to the king and his people for trespasses and excesses according to the articles contained in their commissions both before and after the date of their commissions as such trespasses have continued.
- Nature of endorsement
- The commission should continue for excesses committed after the date of the commission, and if necessary new justices should be added to the commission, and they should have power to hear pleas of rescues made to them in contempt of the king. h>

- Dated by association with the special inquiries launched in the shires by Edward III in 1341-4, about which there was complaint in parliament: Harriss, King, Parliament and Public Finance, pp. 404-6. See also SC 8/80/3961.
