Nature of request
Anthony Vidayl, merchant and ship's master of Porto in Portugal, states that when he had arrived at Southampton with his ship, the Bailiffs of the town seized the ship for the King's use, attached and imprisoned the sailors, and impounded the goods, worth £200, until he could get a release and quitclaim, when they issued him with a letter under the cocket for 100s. He asks that they might be summoned to Chancery to answer for their actions, as the Mayor and Bailiffs are at present in parliament.
