Description
Petitioners
Henry Ulf and Annabel Ulf his wife, and William de Brigham and Agnes de Brigham his wife.
Name(s)
Ulf; Ulf; de Brigham; de Brigham, Henry; Annabel; William; Agnes
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioners state that Peter de Broghton, father of Annabel and Agneys, whose heirs they are, alienated certain tenements, which he held of the King, to Henry de Marton without making satisfaction to the King, because of which Hugh de Cressingham had them taken into the King's hand in his Eyre at York. The petitioners ask that they might make satisfaction to the King, and have seisin of the tenements.
Nature of endorsement
They are to have a writ in Chancery to have the record of H. de Cressingham and his colleagues brought before the King; and justice is to be done to them.
Places mentioned
Skipton in Craven (Skipton) [West Riding of Yorkshire]
Broghton in Craven (Broughton), [West Riding of Yorkshire]
York.
People mentioned
Peter de Broghton (Broughton)
Henry de Marton
Hugh de Cressingham
Malghedale.
Note
The eyre referred to in the petition is clearly that held by Hugh de Cressingham in 1293-4, the records for which (mentioned in the endorsement) are in JUST 1/1084-1103. From the text, it would seem to have been delivered before the death of Cressingham at Stirling Bridge in September 1297.
