Nature of request
John Talbot states that he was given the manor of Freeby by Hugh le Despenser, Earl of Winchester, but that Simon de Berford, by virtue of his office of escheator, seized it into the King's hand, and then [persuaded] the King to give it to him. John Talbot asks for justice to be done in the matter of this manor.
Nature of endorsement
Certain people are to be appointed to inquire into the things contained in the petition, in the presence of the keeper; and when the inquisition has been returned in Chancery, the King is to be advised.

Dated on the guard to 'c. 1328 seq.', with reference to CFR 1327-37 p.91 is dated 8 May 1328; p.246 is dated 1 April 1331; and p.289 is dated 20 November 1331. This petition would seem to date from some time after 8 May 1328, possibly from around the time of Berford's forfeiture.Simon de Berford was Escheator south of the Trent between 13 December 1327 and 23 October 1330.
