Addressees

Occupation
Abbot of Tewkesbury
Nature of request
The Abbot of Tewkesbury states that a group of malefactors came to his manor of Stanway in Gloucestershire, and drove off his livestock. When he could have no deliverance of them by the King's writ or otherwise, he sued to Chancery for a remedy, and was given an oyer et terminer to Hugh le Despenser, Roger Hillary, and others. As a result of this the malefactors were outlawed, but the sheriff of Gloucestershire has refused to arrest them and seize their lands and chattels, and now, on the Tuesday after the feast of the Trinity last, they have driven off all the Abbot's livestock from his manor of Stanway, and are lying in wait to destroy him, his house and his people. He requests a commission to sergeants at arms or others to seize these outlaws, as the sheriffs of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire will do nothing.
