Abbot of Tavistock
Nature of request
Robert, Abbot of Tavistock, states that Hugh Daudeleye the younger granted him the vill of Lydford and all the profits of the chase of Dartmoor for five years, in exchange for a certain annual sum, and that he had the King's permission for this, and had paid for the first two years in advance; but that two weeks before Easter in the King's fourteenth year, Robert Bendyn, formerly Sheriff of Devon, expelled him from this farm by the King's writ, and took all his rents and other profits between then and the following Michaelmas, when the two years for which he had paid expired. He requests justice and a remedy, as the Sheriff has not yet accounted.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.
Places mentioned

Dartmoor, [Devon].
People mentioned

Note
CPR 1317-21 p.424 is dated 22 February 1320. The Abbot claims that he was expelled two weeks before Easter, 14 Edward II (1321), which would accord with Robert Bendyn's period of office as Sheriff (12 October 1319-16 June 1321). The petition would therefore seem to date from c. 1321.
