Ralph de Thouny requests that the plea between himself and Edmund de Mortimer before the justices of the Bench might not be delayed in future, and that he might not use common law, as Edmund de Mortimer has essoined himself continually for two years, by favour of the court since the King's crossing.

The reference to the King's crossing and the address to the council suggest that this petition dates from the period of Edward I's stay on the continent between 1286 and 1289. As the petitioner says that Edmund has essoined himself continually for two years, by favour of the court after the King's crossing, it presumably dates from about 1288.
