Reference
SC 8/76/3766
Date
[c. 1316]
Description
Petitioners
William Trumwyn, Constable of Criccieth castle.
Name(s)
Trumwyn, William
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Criccieth, [Caernarfonshire, Wales]
North Wales.
Nature of request
William Trumwyn, Constable of Criccieth castle, asks that the Chamberlain of North Wales might be asked to have the castle provisioned, and also to pay the Constable his fee which is in arrears.
Nature of endorsement
The Chamberlain of North Wales is to be ordered by a writ of Chancery to have the defects found in the castle repaired by the inspection and order of the Justiciar, and to have it supplied with victuals: and this is to be allowed in the Chamberlain's account. And he is to pay the Constable the arrears of his fee and they will be allowed to him.
Note
CPR 1313-17 p.559 is dated 4 November 1316, so the petition must date from before that time. CCR 1313-18 pp.266 (13 February 1316) 267 (12 February 1316) and 283 (10 May 1316) all suggest that the petition may well date from around this year. Petitions Relating to Wales p.111 merely says that the petitioner was Constable of Criccieth castle in 1316 and Sheriff of Caernarfonshire from Michaelmas 1309 to Michaelmas 1315, and that he died in January 1318.
