Description
Petitioners
John Turk, son and heir of Margery Malwayn, widow of John Malwayn, and Margaret de Foxcote, wife of John de Foxcote.
Name(s)
Turk; de Foxcote, John; Margaret
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
John Turk, son and heir of Margery, widow of John Malwayn, and Margaret, wife of John de Foxcote, daughters and heirs of Augustine Waleys, state that the manor of Brandeston Hall belongs to them as heirs of Augustine and Maud his wife, who purchased it from Roger Bavent and Hawise his wife, but that the King seised the manor with other lands of John Malwayn until John had made satisfaction with him. John did so, and his other lands were returned, but this manor remains in the King's hand. They request restitution of the manor, as they have been barred from their inheritance for seven years and more.
Nature of endorsement
The restitution is to be examined and a further search is to be made to see if the manor is in the King's hand for the reason contained in this petition and not for any other reason, and also a search to see if the King has anything in defence of his right; and if there is no other matter, justice is to be done. And if it is in the hands of others, the tenants of the said manor are to be warned, and when their arguments have been heard in Chancery, justice is further to be done.
