Reference
SC 8/76/3756
Date
[1308-1318]
Description
Petitioners
Margery de Treverbin.
Name(s)
de Treverbin, Margery
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Margery de Treverbin states that when Thomas de Gevely was outlawed in the King's second year at her suit, for robbing her of her goods in Cornwall and raping her daughter Sibyl, he came with two friends to her lodgings in London, broke down the door and raped Sibyl again and robbed her. She sued again, and had him attached to come before the marshals on St Martin's day last: but because he appeared in the company and protection of Henry de Beaumount, no-one dared to accuse him, and he left without day. She raised the hue against him, but nobody dared to attach him, because of Henry de Beaumount. She requests a remedy, that he might be received to answer to her, according to the law.
Nature of endorsement
They are to go to King's Bench, where the outlawry was returned, and she is to have a writ of execution to whichever sheriff she wishes.
Places mentioned
Cornwall
London.
People mentioned
Thomas de Gevely
Sibyl [de Treverbin], daughter of Margery de Treverbin
Roger Brabanzon (Brabazon), justice
Henry de Beaumount (Beaumont).
Note
AS Thomas de Gevely was outlawed in 2 Edward II (8 July 1308 - 7 July 1309) and as his pardon, CPR 1307-13 p.362, is dated 9 November 1310, the petition would seem to date from 1308-1310. However, a petition from a Margery de Treverbyn is among those listed on m.3 of piece 22 of E 175/1, a list of petitions to the parliament of October 1318, which might possibly be this petition.
