Description

Name(s)
de Tillyol, Peter
Addressees

Occupation
parson of the church of Clifton
Nature of request
Peter de Tillyol states that when the Prince last came out of Scotland, Thomas de Berkeley the son came to his manor in Clifton, threw his people out, without delivery of any marshal, and has held it ever since. He and his people have also taken Peter's goods, and taken down and burnt the pale enclosing his manor, and Thomas de Bingeley, Berkeley's valet and purveyor, has threatened Peter's valet, drawing his sword in the cloister of Our Lady's church at Carlisle on the Saturday after the conversion of St Paul, in full parliament and in the sight of knights and others. He requests justice and a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
He is to come tomorrow and sue.The above-mentioned Peter came before the council and found as pledges Clement de Casterton and John de Scaleby that he would sue against the said Thomas de Berkeley, Thomas de Bingeley and John de Aysshe. Therefore writs of Chancery are to be sent to the Sheriffs of Westmorland and Cumberland, to attach their bodies, so that they are to have them before the council on the Monday after the feast of St Mattias.
