Nature of request
William de Thorntoft states that he has sued against the Prior of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England concerning an annuity, which is in arrears to him for nine years and more, but without success, as the result of the favour of the King's ministers. He asks that the justices of King's Bench might take the inquisition into the issues of the people who come before them in assizes or in inquisitions, and that a remedy might be ordained for such long processes in such writs or in writs of debt, for him and for the common profit of the realm.
