Prior of Tonbridge
Nature of request
The Prior of Tonbridge states that Thomas Colpeper, by power of his bailiwick, forced them to lease him a piece of land called Downingbury for a term of years, but that when the King came to Tonbridge they showed him how this had been done, and he ordered them to enter their land safely. However, Richard de Biflete then expelled them from this land and leased it to John Copping, who was in agreement with Thomas Colpeper. They request a remedy.

Note
Dated on the guard to '? c. 1322' with reference to the forfeiture of Thomas Colpeper (he is among those whose possessions are ordered to be taken into the king's hand on 27 December 1321 (CFR 1319-27 p.84)), and this would seem a likely time for such a petition to have been submitted.
