Nature of request
Roger le Taylour of Mountsorrel states that William Dogel, Bailiff of Mountsorrel, forcibly procured the release of William de Houton, arrested for breaking into Eve Hoyle's house and stealing her goods, and that he has amerced Roger in his absence in the court of Mountsorrel because he had purchased a writ to inquire into these felonies at the King's suit, and is preventing anything being done on this writ by his power. He also states that he has levied pavage by a false commission, and has done many other things against the King's peace. Roger asks that the truth of these things might be proved by twenty-four of the best men of the vill, and that the matter might be put right at common law.
