SC 8/74/3651
Date
[c. 1322]
Description
Petitioners
Executors of Nicholas de Segrave.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The executors request that it be granted to them that they are able to have the winter corn sown in his manors in his life so that they can perform his last will and testament, as it is in the king's hand because it escheated to him as Segrave held his manors in chief.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they certify the king in Chancery as to whether Segrave was in the debt to the king or not; and if it is found that he was not in debt, then let justice be done to the executors.
People mentioned
Nicholas de Segrave.
Note
Nicholas de Segrave, 1st Lord Segrave, died in 1295, and his second son, also Nicholas, died in November 1321. No other members of the family seem to have been named Nicholas, and since the handwriting seems inconsistent with a date around 1295, the petition presumably relates to the lands of the son.
