Fitz Simon requests remedy and that he be regranted the manors of Diamor and Kildalkey which Mortimer granted to him to hold for his life and that of his brother, and which Mortimer had of the gift of the king, and after which Mortimer imprisoned him in Dover castle until he rendered the manors and the charters to him which he did to escape his peril.
Nature of endorsement
He should wait.
Places mentioned
Demor (Diamor), [County Meath, Ireland]
Kildalkey, [County Meath, Ireland].
People mentioned
Roger de Mortimer
Laurence [Fitz Simon], brother of the petitioner
Walter de Lacy
Edward de Brus (Bruce)
Lord Percy
Lord Ufford.
Note
The petition is likely to date to 1324 as the petitioner was given a pardon and restitution for his lands for his rebellion on 1 April 1324. The events in the petition refer back to the invasion of Ireland by Edward Bruce in 1315. Bruce was killed in October 1318, and the forfeiture of Walter de Lacy, his ally, must have occurred at about this time. Mortimer's alleged imprisonment and attempt to force the petitioner to surrender his manors can be no later than 1322, and if the petitioner was also a rebel, he is unlikely to have been able to recover the lands referred to here until after his pardon. However, it does seem strange that the petitioner should need a pardon in 1324 for his rebellion if he was also a victim of one of the leading rebels, Roger de Mortimer.
