Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
John de Sutbury.
Name(s)
de Sutbury, John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Sutbury requests remedy as he has satisfied the executors of the bishop for a sum in which he was obliged by a recognisance, the bishop having taken his chattels and part of his land until he had had satisfaction. He has been unable to re-enter his lands and the barons of the Exchequer have refused him a writ of scire facias and offered him a venire facias so that he is still held out of his land.
Nature of endorsement
He should be satisfied by such process that the barons wish to ordain for him.
People mentioned
[Walter Stapledon], Bishop of Exeter.
Note
There is no real dating evidence, but it is likely that this is a petition early in the reign of Edward III, and the bishop of Exeter is Walter Stapledon who had been murdered as Edward II's rule collapsed.
