[c. 1325-c. 1350]
Description
Petitioners
Abbot and convent of Netley.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The abbot and convent request that their charters be allowed and that they are not prosecuted or troubled by the king's justices, as the justices in those parts will not allow their charters for certain lands and tenements bought with the king's licence.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is agreed in this present parliament that men of religion who have purchased lands and tenements by licence of the king and by due process in Chancery by writ ad quod damnum should not be prosecuted for such purchases, they should have writs to the justices and others to surcease all such prosecutions because of such purchases. The prior is to show what he has for this, and if the purchases are in the manner he alleges then he is to have writs to the justices.
