Commonalty of the counties of Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Dorset and Gloucestershire.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The commonalty request that a commission be granted to St John and the others to enquire whether it is to the king's greater profit it the staple is at Winchester where it ordained, or at Southampton, and that the king and his council will ordain on this.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.2) Because the staple at Winchester was established by common counsel, it should remain.

The petition dates to c. 1332 as it is probably a response to the ordinance ordered to be published on 16 September 1332, rather than relating to the earlier establishment of a staple at Winchester between 1326 and 1328 (CPR 1330-4, pp.362-363).
