Nature of request

The abbot requests that it be ordered to the justice of Wales that notwithstanding the confirmation obtained by Clement concerning his rights to have cognisance of pleas within the commote of Pennardd, that an inquisition saving the king and the house's estate as the abbot and his tenants from time out of memory have made all suits and pleas to the king's court at LLanbadarn. Clement has come with a charter and makes many extortions and mischiefs on the abbot's tenants.

Nature of endorsement

Let the justice be ordered that if it is as the petition alleges, then he be advised to take nothing before the inquisition is taken, notwithstanding the charter or confirmation with the clause licet, saving always the estate of the king. If he is in doubt or difficulty should arise by which he cannot proceed to judgement, then that he should inform the king and his council.
