Reference
SC 8/72/3571
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Walter de Staneweye (Stanway).
Name(s)
de Staneweye (Stanway), Walter
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Staneweye requests that a remedy be ordained as Caam and others came to his house and broke in and took his goods and chattels though he owed them nothing. He has purchased a writ to the sheriff of Worcestershire but nothing has been done by the support of Despenser's steward and proctor.
Nature of endorsement
He should sue this at the common law.
Places mentioned
Worcestershire.
People mentioned
Richard de Caam
John de Caam, son of Richard de Caam
Robert de Caam, son of Richard de Caam
Robert le Fynch
John le Botiller, Steward of Hugh le Despenser, the son
John Golafre, proctor of Hugh le Despenser, the son.
Note
The petition presumably dates to 1327 or thereafter as it is an open complaint against the younger Despenser. However, as SC 8/14/695 and SC 8/72/3572 are other petitions by the same petitioner on the same matter, they must represent successive petitions, though the exact occasion for their presentation, and the difference in time between them are not clear. They cannot be that far apart.
