Note
Moran's 'History of Essex' places most of the people mentioned in Finchingfield in the first half of the fourteenth century. The petitioner is probably John de Gregge (or Grygge) (d. 1332) [CIPM VII no.404]), since the first letter of the surname is probably a 'G', but John Somenour's lands included service in the royal kitchens at the coronation (CIPM XI, no.193). Both held lands in Finchingfield. The petition is therefore notionally assigned to the first half of the fourteenth century.
