[c. 1330]
Description
Petitioners
Prior of Sempringham.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Prior of Sempringham
Nature of request
The prior and his predecessors were impeached in King's Bench and many things were presented against them at the last session at Lincoln and the justices do not wish to finish matters touching the king without a command of the king. They request that they are granted letters nisi prius to the justices in the county to try the truth of the things, and make a fine according to law and reason.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.
Places mentioned
Sempringham, [Lincolnshire]

Note
The petition probably dates to c. 1331, and relates to what seems to be an ongoing feud between the prior, members of his house and associates on the one part and local landowners of the other (CPR 1330-4, pp.60, 126, 132). However, it should be noted that this is based on the references entered on the guard, and it has proved impossible to confirm the link.
