Note
The petition dates to c. 1319 by the date of a commission of oyer and terminer into Wayland's activities. It is not clear when the commission was issued in relation to the petition because this is clearly a response by the lay authority, and the events dealt with in the petition are very much in the Church's domain. However, they are unlikely to be far removed from another (CPR 1317-21, p.461).
