Date
[1324-1325]
Description
Petitioners
Lete Rugemund, widow of Ralph de Rugemund.
Name(s)
Rugemund, Lete
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Rugemund requests that she be able to have the grace of the king upon the matter that she brought by petition before the last parliament held at Westminster as the law of the land in this case reasonably demands. She was ordered to take a writ of Chancery to the justices of the king in the Common Bench to view the record and process of her plea and continue it before the chancellor, but he has done nothing.1) Copy of a petition by Rugemund requesting the grace of the king as she has been unable to recover messuages and lands in Holme by a writ against Thornton and Clerk who have enfeoffed others in the messuages by which they came into the possession of Andrew Harcla and have forfeited to the king.2) Copy of a writ of Edward II to William de Bereford ordering the sending of the record and process to the king.
Nature of endorsement
The record and first petition should be brought before the council.

Note
The petition contains a copy of a further petition and a writ. The writ is dated to 12 March 1324. There is an additional date for the writ that initiated the petitioner's suit being 10 December 1321. The petition itself obviously dates to after March 1324, and can be no later than December 1325 as a reference to the petitioner's death on the Monday before Christmas, 19 Edward II is recorded in a later entry in the close rolls concerning the claims of her son in the same land (CCR 1327-30, p.56). As the guard note refers to this close roll reference, it is rather strange that it should opt for a date of 1326-1327 when the petition can only be for 1324-1325.
