Nature of request
Rothing requests remedy. He made a recognisance in the paper of the chamber of the Guildhall of London in £48 to Ely and Edmond to be paid at Michaelmas next, the recognisance being void if he paid £24 to them. By a conspiracy between them and the mayor they had his goods arrested and they sued for his tenements in London so that he dare not sue for recovery of the wrongs and grievances done to him.

The petition can be dated very approximately to 1317-21 on the basis of references to the petitioner and to Ely and Edmond (CCR 1313-8, p.571;CCR 1318-23, p.356). Rothyng was admitted as a freeman of London on 4 April 1310: London Letter Book D, p.52.
