Reference
SC 8/70/3461
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Peter Ris (Rhys).
Name(s)
Ris (Rhys), Peter
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
Ris requests remedy and that he can have restitution of the manor of Lashley to hold it for the term of his life as he had previously held it. He had been enfeoffed by John de Latcheleye, but had been imprisoned by Despenser until he had rendered the manor to him to his damage.
Nature of endorsement
Let certain men be assigned in Chancery to enquire in the presence of the keeper of the disseisin and other matters touching it, and let the muniments of Despenser be searched for anything to bar Ris of his demands and the inquisition returned and certification made in Chancery, and the king advised.
Places mentioned
Latcheleye (Lashley), Essex
Colchester, [Essex]
Westminster.
People mentioned
John de Latcheleye (Lashley)
Hugh le Despenser, the son
Lady of Merk.
Note
The petition probably dates to 1327 as it is unlikely that a petitioner would complain about the Despensers until after their fall.
