Reference
SC 8/70/3455
Date
[c. 1314]
Description
Petitioners
Robert de Rideware, king's messenger.
Name(s)
de Rideware, Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
king's messenger
Nature of request
Rideware requests remedy of the £30 and of his pension. He was granted the office of Spigurnel in Chancery for his pension but was put out of the office in favour of Stubbes, and he had the bailiwick of Dartford rendering £30 at the Exchequer but has been grievously damaged as he has not been allowed £10 for his pension, and has been made to pay a claim on the farm.1)
Nature of endorsement
It is ordered to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that when they have viewed the record remaining in the Exchequer at the suit of the petitioner of £30 which he paid to Grandison for arrears just as is contained in the petition, they should pay to him the debt and do full speedy justice.2) Coram rege.
Places mentioned
Dartford, [Kent].
People mentioned
Walter Renauld (Reynolds), Chancellor
Hugh atte Stubbes
William de Grandson (Grandison).
Note
The petition is likely to date to c. 1314 as the treasurer and barons were ordered to allow a sum to Rideware in his account for the custody of the town of Dartford on 1 November 1314 (CCR 1313-18, p.123). Although this does not relate directly to the petition, it is unlikely to be too distant in date from the petition.
